Schoolchildren from the Moscow region took part in the master class “Where Does Sugar Grow?”
March 23
The interactive educational center of Prodimex Group welcomes small curious guests.
Sixth-grade pupils of Secondary School No. 15 in Krasnogorsk, led by class teacher Elena A. Ryzhikova and deputy school director Svetlana A. Kuzichkina, took part in the master class “Where Does Sugar Grow?”.
The children learned how sugar beet is grown in large fields, how sugar plants turn the root crops into the finished product — sugar — and what by-products are obtained in sugar production and where they are then used. The schoolchildren also learned a lot of interesting and important things about Prodimex, a leader of Russia’s agricultural industry.
The children were especially interested in the interactive model of a sugar plant. And most importantly, at the master class the schoolchildren could see real samples of intermediate products of sugar production, provided by employees of the Olkhovatsky Sugar Combine, part of Prodimex Group.
During the master class the children took turns completing interesting tasks: they sowed pelleted beet seeds, extracted juice from root crops and used a refractometer to determine the sucrose content of sugar beet. Incidentally, anyone who wished could taste real sugar beet roots. A representative of Prodimex Group, Ekaterina Krestyankina, also took part in the master class. Her area of responsibility at the company is logistics.
We thank all the organizers of the master class: fourth-year student of the Department of Crop Production and Meadow Ecosystems of the Timiryazev Academy Polina Pivovarova, Associate Professor Olga V. Kukharenkova, and assistants Vladimir Vilkhovoy and Anastasia Povarnitsyna.
Prodimex is always glad to see new friends at its interactive educational center, which operates at the Timiryazev Russian State Agrarian University – Moscow Agricultural Academy.
