RBC: Prodimex began sowing in the Chernozem region with barley and wheat
The first to start work were the farms in the Belgorod and Voronezh regions. Sugar beet sowing is planned for the second ten days of April.
The agroholding Prodimex has begun the spring sowing campaign in the Chernozem regions. Work started on March 25 — the first to go into the field were the enterprises in the Rovenky district of the Belgorod region and the Olkhovatsky district of the Voronezh region, where spring barley sowing began. In the last days of March they were joined by farms in the Liskinsky district of the Voronezh region, which began sowing spring wheat.
Progress of sowing
As of the first ten days of April, farmers had completed about 15% of the barley plan and 5% of the spring wheat plan. As soon as soil moisture reaches optimal values, all the remaining enterprises of the group will join the work.
Sugar beet — the agroholding’s strategic crop — will begin to be sown in the second ten days of April. The farms note that all necessary resources are available in full, the equipment for sowing has been prepared, and the weather is not creating obstacles to work.
Condition of winter crops
In parallel with sowing, the first top-dressing of winter wheat continues. It has so far been carried out on more than 70% of the planned area. The agroholding counts on a good harvest of this crop this season: winter crops have overwintered successfully and are showing active development.
Chief agronomist of the group Evgeny Shcheglov explained that enough snow in winter made it possible to accumulate the necessary volume of moisture in the soil. “This gives a good start for crop development,” he noted.
In March, RBC Chernozemye wrote that in the Voronezh region the first to go into the fields for top-dressing winter crops were the agroholding’s farms in the south of the region. At the northern and eastern sites, work began later. The company explained that, because of the weather, the start of the season shifted by a week compared with last year.
