RBC: Prodimex has started harvesting grain and is preparing for the sugar beet season

July 20Source RBC
The farms of the management company Prodimex Agro (part of Prodimex Group) began the harvesting campaign on July 3.

The first to go out into the fields were the branches of the southern zone: in the Voronezh region, Rossoshansky and Kantemirovsky, and in the Belgorod region, the Rovenky district.

Harvest progress and the weather factor

To date, about 6.5% of the planned volume of winter wheat has been threshed. The average yield is 3.72 t/ha. However, this figure is so far low for objective reasons: harvesting began on sandy-soil plots, where productivity is traditionally lower because of a lack of moisture and poor supply of nutrients. In addition, field work had to be suspended because of rain and high air humidity — such conditions do not allow effective threshing and reduce grain quality.

Despite weather adjustments, the schedule is being kept, the company stressed. The combine fleet is fully staffed with a reserve, consumables and fuel are in stock, and mobile repair crews are on constant duty. Counting on a good final harvest, the company has continued storing grain in polyethylene grain bags.

Seed stock and crop protection

Seed-producing enterprises monitor the moisture of the material continuously — portable moisture meters and laboratory sample analyses are used for this. “As soon as the moisture level reaches the standard values, threshing will begin. The plan is for part of the seeds to be placed in the enterprises’ warehouses, while the main volume will go to the Talovsky seed plant, where the main quantity of seeds for the enterprises will be conditioned — sorted, treated and packed in big bags,” the company said.

The main volume of pesticide treatments has already been completed. Specialists are now concentrating on monitoring: they track leaf spot on sugar beet, apply fungicides where necessary, and monitor pest infestation of soybean and beet fields. Insecticide treatments are planned for the near future.

Sugar beet forecast

The condition of the sugar beet crops is assessed as satisfactory, with last year’s yield figures expected. Raw-materials services constantly track the growth of root mass — incoming reports confirm positive dynamics. In parallel, beet harvesting equipment is being prepared and delivery logistics to the plants verified, with a view to uninterrupted processing at the height of the campaign.
