Prodimex agricultural enterprises in the Voronezh region have successfully completed spring sowing
Prodimex Group farms in the Voronezh region have completed the spring sowing campaign. Despite the whims of nature, farmers demonstrated a high level of professionalism, quickly adapted to the conditions of a wet, cold spring and ensured fairly compact sowing times.
The vast majority of key crops in the planned acreage structure were sown in full. The extended sowing period this year turned out to be the main tactical advantage. The enterprises managed to avoid the risk of recurrent frosts completely and protect the strategic crop — sugar beet. This season not a single hectare of beet was lost to frost, whereas last year this figure was about a quarter of the entire area.
At Prodimex farms in the Lipetsk and Tambov regions, where the land was saturated with moisture to the maximum, the branches were able to sow most of the soybean area — more than 70% of the plan. Despite fairly extended soybean sowing times, the yield forecast is optimistic, about 2–2.5 t/ha, although this crop is quite sensitive to late sowing.
Winter wheat areas damaged by the autumn drought and spring moisture were promptly and effectively re-sown with promising spring wheat, which fully compensates for possible costs.
The agronomic service specialists carry out continuous monitoring of the condition of the fields, identifying any threats to plants in good time. Herbicide weeding is under way successfully on soybean and spring grain fields, and the important fungicide treatment of winter wheat has already been completed. In parallel with field work, land improvement is being carried out, including grading of on-farm roads and edge treatments. All of this lays the groundwork for a comfortable and efficient harvest campaign.
Work is under way to plan seed plots and prepare for harvesting. Branch agronomists are monitoring early grain crops in order to forecast yield and gross grain harvest. Overall, the yield forecast is satisfactory. According to the chief agronomists, the yield of winter wheat will be about 4.5 t/ha, and of spring wheat and barley up to 4 t/ha on average across Prodimex enterprises in the region.
At this stage it is very important to estimate the planned harvest more precisely, since the work of the elevators, the need for harvesting and transport equipment and the necessary storage space depend directly on it.
Promising trial plots have also been successfully laid down to test advanced varieties of soybeans, spring wheat, sunflower hybrids and sugar beet. This scientific and practical work opens up new opportunities for raising yields and for the technological development of the farms. The current trials of various herbicides and fungicides are of great importance — on the basis of the results obtained, an effective crop protection scheme can be developed for next year.
